Description:   The Bristol and Exeter Railway obtained an act in 1864 for a branch line to Wells. This enters Somerset to the N of Axbridge. Work started in broad gauge in 1867and reached Cheddar in 1869 and Wells (Tucker Street, PRN 18395) in 1870. It was converted to standard gauge in 1874. The line was extended to join the East Somerset Line (24132) at Priory Road Station (PRN 18394) in 1878.  (1)
