Description:    
The road from Meare to Glastonbury, the earliest principal land route from the parish, seems to have followed the Brue south-east and then south until it crossed the river over Madelode bridge on the site of the present Cradle Bridge.1

Although, the Somerset Extensive Urban Survey – Glastonbury Archaeological Assessment suggests that Madelode Bridge was over the old course of the Brue See
